AMA at EMU, Eastern Michigan University's collegiate chapter for the American Marketing Association, offers a wide array of benefits to its members. Opportunities include: a sense of community, board and leadership positions, community service, fundraisers, and participation in College of Business student organization functions, and most of all, giving you greater exposure to the study of marketing in present day business.

Harry Derderian

​Faculty Advisor

As senior account manager in the business to business environment, he has represented auto industry suppliers for many years to such firms as Denso Corporation, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Takata, TRW, and Yazaki. Currently, he is account manager for promotional support programs serving various area profit/non-profit companies.

With regard to the Integrated Marketing Communications side of business, he has served as JEEP advertising and public relations manager and created co-branding programs with the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings. Previously, he was Marketing Manager for Honeywell.

Harry is a full-time lecturer and is a co-developer of EMU's Sales Promotion course.

He serves as a Faculty Advisor for EMU's Chapter of the American Marketing Association, is a member of both the EMU Presidential Scholarship and Explore Eastern committees and the DECA Evaluation team.

Harry has held membership in the American Marketing Association and American Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He is on the Board of Directors of Armenia Village Operations, a U.S. based Non-Government Organization that provides support to schools and small & medium size businesses in Armenia.

From 2000-2007, he was part of a volunteer team that partnered with United Nations Development Programs in Armenia , providing  small and medium size business training as well as support for refurbishment of  elementary schools

Lewis Hershey

Marketing Department Head

Dr. Hershey is the Head of the Department of Marketing and a Professor of Marketing at Eastern Michigan University. As an academician, Dr. Hershey has published widely in scholarly journals in such fields as financial planning, marketing theory, management theory, leadership, marketing education, information-processing and communications theory, narrative and literary criticism, intercultural communication, and classical rhetoric. Prior to coming to Michigan, he has taught at major universities in North Carolina, Louisiana, Missouri and Georgia. He is a former financial planner and business owner.  As a consultant, Dr. Hershey created the first-to-market PowerPoint-based lecturing/learning systems for college textbooks. He has completed over fifty lecture supplement projects in support of major business textbooks in a wide variety of business fields, seen by over 3 million MBA candidates and undergraduate students. Dr. Hershey’s computer-based lecturing systems have been used to support textbooks in marketing principles, marketing management, principles of management, organizational behavior, human resource management, strategic management, public relations, advertising, consumer behavior, business law, introduction to business, business communications, sociology, anthropology, production and operations management, economics, computer information systems, and engineering materials.  He serves on the editorial review boards of the Academy of Marketing Studies Journal, The Journal of Business Studies, Services Marketing Quarterly, and as a guest reviewer for special issues on pedagogy for the Marketing Education Review.
